Meet the new Life Editor at the world edition of The Spectator; the newest contributor for The New York Sun; and your new favourite podcast host
Announcement #1: Life Editor at the world edition of The Spectator
I’m proud to announce that I have joined the world edition of The Spectator as their new Life Editor. I’ll still be writing articles — in fact, you’ll be able to enjoy a monthly feature of mine in the print edition, and you can read all my work here — but I’ll also be commissioning and editing pieces.
I was brought in because I love this stuff, and if you do too, I want to publish you! I want interesting, fun, compelling stories; be it on food, lifestyle trends, regional culture, architecture, fashion influences, travel, and consumer tech, or anything else in the ‘life’ category— all done with a Spectator tone. If that prompts an interesting thought, and you think you can write a great story out of it, pitch me at randerson@thespectator.com
Thank you so much to Zack Christenson and Oliver Wiseman for the opportunity. There’s going to be some awesome stuff coming down the pike.
Also: if you’re new the industry or are interested in freelancing but don’t know where to start; reach out! I only got into this because I got advice from experienced people, and if you have questions (about the pitching process, what to write, where to get started, pay etc.), I’m happy to set up a Zoom call to answer any questions, or just answer over email if you prefer. I won’t always be able to get back quickly but I promise you that I will get back!
Announcement #2: New York Sun Contributor
For those who missed it on Twitter, I am now a regular contributor to The New York Sun, where I’m writing about culture, technology, cars, fashion, and all the usual stuff you’d expect from me.
It’s a fantastic publication, ran by great folks who value quality writing, and I’m honoured to be in their digital pages. Thank you so much to (the great) Seth Lipsky, Dovid Efune, and Noah Kotch for making this possible.
You can find my work for them here, and I implore you to become a paying subscriber.
Announcement #3: Arguably, with Ross Anderson
Finally; you may have seen the new tag at the top of this Substack, Arguably. This is my new fortnightly interview podcast, where I bring on interesting, important thinkers and ask them about the big issues — and it’s going to be great. The first three episodes are on gay history, the Republican Party, and the state of psychology, and there are many more in the works.
The podcast launches at the end of June, and you’ll be able to subscribe for free wherever good podcasts are found; or, become a paying subscriber right here on Substack and get access to episodes a week early, participate in Q&A episodes.
Thank you to all of you for reading.
Yours faithfully,
Ross
