The Aperitif is - as you may have guessed - on hold
As you can probably guess, I have had to place The Aperitif on indefinite hold. The reasons for this largely fall into a couple of camps:
Each issue was taking longer than I was able to allot to get them to maintain the quality I desired. I never want to write in public unless I can offer something of unique value, and I didn’t feel I could do that with a trimmed down version that would save more time.
My schedule was already too full, and I was unable to commit to The Aperitif without it eating into my down time, which was therefore eroding the other work I have to do.
As such, writing The Aperitif lost much of the pleasure it should be (and was) and instead became a chore - an exercise to avoid embarrassment. That isn’t an energy I want to write from, and never how I wish to feel about my work.
This does not mean however that I have given up on this format, or that you should unfollow from the Substack. I thoroughly enjoyed writing in this format, and intend to return to it when I have a wider readership and more available time; and I will still use this as a way to notify you whenever I have a new article out, and there are quite a few coming down the pike.
But for the moment, The Aperitif is paused. I really appreciate everyone who reached out to say how much they enjoyed the newsletter, and hope that I will continue to entertain and enlighten with my writing in other forums.
Thank you for reading and I hope all of you and yours are well,
Mr. Ross Anderson
